Welcome to The Ivy Branch — a place where love lives on, grief finds gentleness, and stories remind us we are never alone.

Hi, I’m Sydney—a nurse, a mom, and the voice behind The Ivy Branch.

The Ivy Branch was created in honor of my daughter, Ivy Irene, whose life changed mine in ways I never could have imagined. Ivy taught me about resilience, medicine, advocacy, unconditional love, and the strength that can exist in the smallest of people.

Before Ivy, I knew healthcare from the bedside. I was a nurse, caring for newborns and families during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. After Ivy, I came to understand healthcare from an entirely different perspective—from the chair beside my own child’s hospital bed. I experienced both sides of the bedside: the nurse and the mother, the caregiver and the advocate.

That perspective changed me.

What Is The Ivy Branch?

The Ivy Branch is a personal blog and resource space inspired by Ivy’s life and the journey we shared. It is a place where I can share the things I have learned through motherhood, nursing, medical complexity, advocacy, faith, and grief.

Some stories will be personal. Some will be educational. Some will be difficult. Others may simply offer a moment of encouragement when you need it most.

Here, I hope to create a space where stories are honest, information is accessible, questions are welcomed, and difficult experiences can be talked about openly. You may find stories about the NICU, medical motherhood, caregiving, navigating healthcare, patient advocacy, grief, faith, and the many complicated emotions that can exist between hope and heartbreak.

Why The Ivy Branch?

Ivy’s life was short, but her impact was not. She became my greatest teacher, and so much of what she taught me continues to shape the person and nurse I am today.

The Ivy Branch is one way I can carry those lessons forward. It is a place to remember Ivy, not only for what happened to her but for who she was, what she taught me, and what her life continues to inspire.

Through this space, I hope to turn some of the hardest parts of our journey into something that can help another family feel more prepared, more informed, more supported, or simply less alone.

The Mission

The mission of The Ivy Branch is simple: To advocate. To educate. To empower.

I want to share honest stories and trusted information that help families feel more confident navigating complex medical journeys. I want to encourage parents to ask questions, seek understanding, speak up, and know that their voice matters.

Also, I want to create a space where grief can exist alongside love, where faith can coexist with questions, and where hope doesn’t require pretending that difficult things don’t happen. Most importantly, I want every person who finds their way here to feel a little more informed, a little more understood, and a little less alone.

I don’t have all the answers. But I have a story, a perspective, and lessons that I believe are worth sharing. And if Ivy’s life can continue to help someone else, then her story still has more to give. Whether you’re a new mom, a medical mom, a caregiver, a healthcare professional, someone navigating the NICU, or simply someone walking through a difficult season, The Ivy Branch was created with you in mind.

Welcome,

I’m so glad you’re here!
